bible verses about humility

Bible Verses About Humility in Everyday Life

Biblical humility sees the self truthfully, refuses status-seeking at others' expense, and acts with justice, mercy, and teachability. It is not denial of dignity or ability.

A place to begin

Humility can be distorted into silence, low self-worth, or submission to mistreatment. These texts point instead toward accurate self-assessment and the example of Christ using status for the good of others.

Three passages to read

01

Philippians 2:3–8

doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others. Have this in your mind, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, didn’t consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, yes, the death of the cross.

For even as we have many members in one body, and all the members don’t have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another,

With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
